Professor Dr. Laura Bieger has accepted a professorship for American Studies in Political Culture and Theory at the University of Groningen.

Laura Bieger is the author of Ästhetik der Immersion: Raum-Erleben zwischen Welt und Bild. Las Vegas, Washington und die White City (Transcript 2007) and No Place Like Home. A Narrative Theory of Belonging (forthcoming 2015) and the co-editor of Winfried Fluck’s Romance with America? Essays on Culture, Literature, and American Studies (Winter 2009), Mode: Ein kulturwissenschaftlicher Grundriss (Fink 2012), The Imaginary and its Worlds: American Studies after the Transnational Turn (New England UP 2013) and Revisiting the Sixties: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on America’s Longest Decade (Campus 2013). She studied at FU Berlin and UNC Chapel Hill and held teaching and research positions at FU Berlin, UC Berkeley and Universität Wien. Her interests include theories of narrativity and aesthetic experience, theories of culture and modernity, visual and media studies, the American novel, American art and architecture, American popular culture. This summer she will be hosting, together with Florian Sedlmeier, the international conference “Forms and Practices of Narrating” at the FU Berlin.
