Prüfungsleistung & Studienleistung

In addition to signing up for courses before the semester, you will need to complete a secondary registration process once classes have begun in order to receive credit for them. Depending on whether the course is graded or pass/fail, you will either registera Prüfungsleistung (PL) or declare it as a Studienleistung (SL). The following provides detailed explanations of each process.

Prüfungsleistungen (PL): Graded Courses

A Prüfungsleistung (PL) is a course in which you receive a final grade, usually based on your coursework plus a final exam or term paper.

When?

The registration period for Prüfungsleistungen is always during the fourth week of classes.

SUMMER SEMESTER 2023
WEDNESDAY, NOV. 8 – SUNDAY, NOV. 12, 2023
from 7am–12am

Please note that the platform on which you register your PLs depends on your study program.

Registration – HISinOne

Students enrolled in the following programs register their PLs via HISinOne:

  • Double-Major Bachelor's
  • Master of Education
  • Master of Arts (start of studies as of WS 2018)
  • Bachelor of Arts – Major and Minor (start of studies as of WS 2019)

Registration – Previously LSF

Students in the following programs must fill out a paper registration form:

  • Teacher Education (Lehramt) GymPO form
  • Bachelor of Arts – Major and Minor | Start of studies before WS 2019 → form
  • Master of Arts | Start of studies before WS 2018 → form

Please include the following information in your email:

  1. Your student ID number (Matrikelnummer)
  2. Your degree program, including Prüfungsordnung version if necessary (e.g. Major in English, PO 2016)
  3. Name of the class(es) which you are attempting to register
  4. Name of the professor
  5. Name of the module and sub-module that the class falls under


If the problem cannot be resolved by Friday at 2pm of the registration week, please fill out a paper registration form and place it in the GeKo’s mailbox or send it by mail. You can find their contact information on their website: www.geko.uni-freiburg.de

Withdrawal

You have the option to avoid being graded by withdrawing your registration of a PL, but only if the final course evaluation (exam or term paper) is to take place or be handed in in the final two weeks of the course or later. This does not apply if you are already repeating the exam or paper.

Studienleistungen (SL): Pass/Fail Courses


A Studienleistung (SL) is a class evaluated on a pass/fail basis; you do not receive a final grade.

When?

The declaration periods for Studienleistungen are as follows:

Winter Semester
November 1 to January 15

Summer Semester
May 1 to June 15

Registration – HISinOne

Students enrolled in the following programs declare their SLs via HISinOne:

  • Double-Major Bachelor's (with Lehramt Option)
  • Master of Education
  • Master of Arts (start of studies as of WS 2018/19)
  • Bachelor of Arts – Major and Minor (start of studies as of WS 2019/20)
  • Interdisciplinary Studies (i.e. Internationals/Erasmus)

 

Step-by-step guide for registering Studienleistungen via HISinOne

 

Declaration – English Department Portal

Students enrolled in the following programs declare their SLs via the English Department’s portal:

  • Teacher Education (Lehramt) GymPO
  • Bachelor of Arts – Ergänzungsbereich
  • Bachelor of Arts Major and Minor | Start of studies before WS 2019
  • Master of Arts | Start of studies before WS 2018


Additional Information

The department's Administration and Advising Office collects the declarations and passes them on to the lecturers of each class, who in turn submit them to the Office of Student Records (Prüfungsamt) once the semester is over, for official entry onto transcripts.

Students who do not submit an SL declaration or do so incorrectly are not guaranteed credit for those courses.
