Recently, the BW-DESC website went live. It’s a platform for corpus linguistics, which also offers free unlimited access to the BYU corpora for staff and students based at six Baden-Württemberg universities. The BW-DESC team is now happy to follow this up with an invitation to a graduate workshop with Mark Davies, the creator of this corpus-linguistic working environment.

The workshop is organized by Prof. Christian Mair, and will take place at the University of Freiburg on November 16 and 17, 2017. It is intended for graduate (master's and Ph.D.) students in English and/or linguistics.

The program will feature two keynote talks by Prof. Davies, in which he will discuss the potential of the current BYU corpus-linguistic working environment as well as the potential for further development. The core element, however, is interactive sessions in which students working with the corpora will have the opportunity to present and discuss their research with the compiler himself.

The workshop itself will take place at Belfortstr. 14, on the ground floor in the German linguistics library.

Mark Davies' keynote speech on the evening of November 16 will be held at Wilhelmstr. 26, Room 01014 from 6 to 8 pm.
